Why we support Harborlight Homes: A Note from Margaret and Bud Ris

Categories: ,

Margaret and Bud Ris, Gloucester, MA

My brother Greg developed schizophrenia in his early twenties. After several traumatic hospitalizations, he became homeless in Syracuse, NY. By God’s grace, the Rescue Mission of Central New York took him in, and for five decades, they’ve provided him safety and care. My family is deeply grateful.

Bud and I have long supported the Rescue Mission and now prioritize local organizations that house the homeless. Harborlight Homes caught our attention years ago, and we’ve been impressed by its growth and commitment to those without a stable home, whether young adults aging out of foster care, adults with developmental delays, or families falling through society’s safety net. Harborlight truly serves as a beacon of hope for our North Shore neighbors, thanks to Andrew McKenzie-DeFranza and his dedicated team.

At Anchor Point, Harborlight’s wrap-a-round approach, childcare, a community center, and outdoor spaces show its vision for thriving communities. We also participated in the Harborlight Homes Community Investment Tax Credit (CITC) program, which is a win-win for donors and Harborlight.

A gift to Harborlight Homes is an investment in a proven, innovative housing organization. Will you join Bud and me in supporting Harborlight’s big vision: housing for all?
